Is learning from a lecturer in person better or from the notes that he wrote (not in person)?

Yes in person is way better. Notes or recordings just don't give you all the information and everything that happened at the lecture. Someone might ask a really great question at the lecture and there might be a really great answer but you'll never know because you were not there. The last resort is to use notes or recordings of the lecture but only if you have to.
